How should I time my workouts?

In the past, I have struggled with how best to time my workouts. While AMRAPs or WODs done for time can be timed fairly easily using the stopwatch or timer features on my phone, other workouts like EMOMs and tabatas are harder to time using these basic features. Luckily, there are many apps out there that try to fill this need, and many of them are free. While I’ve only tried a couple of these apps personally, I can tell you my current favorite is easily SmartWOD Timer. It is simple and intuitive to use, and it’s also free if you don’t mind a few advertisements. (They can be removed by paying a monthly subscription fee, but they don't bother me.)

For tabata style workouts, I really enjoy using the Tabata Songs that can be found on YouTube. The one below set to the Rocky music is a personal favorite of mine, but you can find many other songs by searching “tabata songs” on YouTube.
