Double-unders are a jump rope skill in which the rope passes under the feet twice with each jump. They are very challenging to master, but you will feel like a million bucks when you do. I believe anyone can learn to do double-unders. You only need three things: a speed rope, patience, and hours and hours of practice.
Not everyone wants to spend all that time and energy learning to do double-unders, though, and that’s okay! Spend your time and energy on the things that are most important to you. (Although learning to do double-unders will make you feel really cool!) There are many possible substitutions for double-unders. If jumping rope isn’t your thing, you can do imaginary jump ropes in which you spin a pretend rope while performing small hops, or you can jump laterally over a PVC pipe or floor crack for the given number of reps instead. If you do want to jump rope but aren’t ready for double-unders, jump rope like normal instead. Just because the rope is only passing under your feet once per jump instead of twice, doesn’t mean you aren't getting a heck of a workout! The most common way to scale double-unders is to do single-unders for twice the number of reps prescribed for the double-unders.
If you do want to learn to do double-unders, there are many different methods for going about it. I personally found the following video to be the most helpful for me, but please feel free to explore the hundreds of other videos available on YouTube to find what works for you.
