Front scales and back scales are gymnastics movements that will strengthen your core; improve your balance, posture, and ankle mobility; and help correct muscular imbalances. Scales may look easy, but they are actually quite challenging. Please modify them to your current fitness level by using a chair, box, or wall as a balance aid and by adjusting how high you lift your foot. The tutorial below covers both beginner and advanced variations of the front and back scale:


Please note that most people will not look like the athletes in the top videos. The videos below offer a more realistic picture of what most of us will look like as we practice scales:
