The dumbbell power clean has all the same benefits as the barbell power clean: improving coordination, developing muscle, burning body fat, building explosive power, and improving grip strength. It is also less intimidating for many people. But, like its barbell brother, it will take time to master. The following video provides an excellent introduction to this beneficial movement, but be patient with yourself as you practice this lift. If you are new to dumbbell power cleans, please be mindful of keeping a neutral spine throughout the movement, as it is easy to arch the back at the bottom of the lift. If you have trouble touching the dumbbells to the floor as you perform dumbbell power cleans, consider performing hang dumbbell power cleans instead. Though they have slightly different benefits than power cleans from the floor, they are gentler on the knees and back.
