It is easy to question the functionality of many of the exercises that I suggest. After all, how often do you need to bring your toes to a bar that you are hanging from or perform double-unders in your regular life? The farmers carry is much more obviously functional though. We often find ourselves carrying heavy objects by our sides while walking. So the next time you find yourself carrying around shopping bags, suitcases, or other items, just consider the many benefits you are reaping: You are activating nearly every muscle group in your body, from your core for stabilizing, your hands, wrists, and forearms for grip strength, your upper back to keep you upright, your legs to move you forward, and your cardiovascular system to power the whole movement.
